FAQ (Frequently asked questions)

Q: How do you determine the price of a mint Krugerrand?

A: Krugerrands are refined and minted at the gold spot price plus 4,5% this is the cost price, at which the Rand Refinery produces them.

To this we add the advisor’s fee of 3%.

Therefore a Krugerrand costs the spot price of gold plus 7,5%.

For example

 ·      R 42 000 (spot price of gold) plus

·       R 1 890 (refining and minting cost of 4,5%) plus

·       R 1 317 (advisor’s fee of 3%) =

·       The total cost of R45 207

Q: Do you offer a better price for circulated Krugerrands (secondhand) that are on offer?

Yes. We are able to offer these at at better price. It is normally at the spot price of gold plus 6% (instead of 7,5%).

Q: How do you determine the price of a Silver Krugerrand?

A: Silver Krugerrands are produced at the silver spot price plus 25%, this is the total cost price, at which the coins are manufactured by the Sunshine Mint in the USA, import costs such as packaging, insurance and shipping, and marketing costs. To this the VAT fee of 15% is added.

Therefore a Silver Krugerrand costs the following.

 For example

·       R471 (spot price of silver) plus

·       R 94 (manufacturing and marketing cost of 20%) plus

·       R 85 (the VAT fee of 15%) =

·       The total cost of R 650 per coin.

·       A tube of 25 coins x R650 = R 16 250

Q: Why are the prices of the silver coins so much higher than the silver spot price?

A: The spot price of silver is the price that mines sell their silver to the various mints and refineries. The silver is then refined and manufactured (minted) into coins and bars, these carry an additional premium. for instance, the same temperature of more than 1 000 degrees is required to melt both metals. The cost for silver is therefore so much higher per ounce.

Moreover, as the coins that we sell are minted in the United States, Britain, Austria, and Australia, the additional premium is accounted for by the import costs (i.e. packaging, shipping, insurance, and the South African Reserve Bank clearance fees).

Q: Can I sell my coins back?

A: Yes. However, we do reserve the rights not to offer this service, for re-purchasing of any bullion coins, it is conditional on the level of stock held. We always repurchase from our investors before purchasing anywhere else. Only the bullion coins and that our clients have purchased from us (invoice may be required as proof of purchase).

For gold, it is the spot price of gold plus 2% (the highest in the industry).

For silver, if a sell-back is considered, we will make an offer to the ‘seller.’ It is normally less 10% of the selling rate.

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Unfortunately, we are not allowed to.
